Excerpt:
...In this article I would like to introduce an artist who has been newly 'discovered' in the archives of the Royal Edinburgh Asylum. For several years I have been researching in these archives, and, recently, amongst the papers of Dr Thomas Clouston, one of the Asylum Superintendents, I found a bundle of thirty-four pictures.

The pictures were strange and compelling. They were done on scraps of paper, mainly pages torn from magazines, and they were accompanied by writing, either in the form of titles of the work or as more extended commentaries.
