| Maria Wnek grows up in her native village with eight brothers and sisters. She goes to elementary school for four years only. She is religious, convinced that God saved her several times from death. Her life is all devoted to the saints and to their lives. | ||
| She starts painting at the age of fourteen. Motherhood, always surrounded by flowers and birds, is the central theme in her work. She suffers constantly from hallucinations and believes that she is being persecuted. Her family makes the decision to have her institutionalized in 1992. | ||
