John (J.B.) Murry
American nationality
Born near Sandersville, Georgia, on March 5th, 1908
Dies near Sandersville, Georgia, on September 18th, 1988

J.B. Murry goes to school for one month. He earns a living working on different plantations. He is very religious, gets married in 1929 and has a large family: eleven children and sixteen grandchildren.

During the 50s or 60s, he breaks up with his wife and leads a solitary life in a cabin with no bathroom or running water. In the 70s, he experiences a religious awakening and starts drawing and writing as a way to express his faith. His drawings are filled with writings and haunting totemic figures. He is the only one to understand his religious texts and he says they should be read through a bottle of "sacred" water drawn from a nearby well. J.B. believes his drawings to be dictated by God. His main themes are the Good and the Evil, Paradise and Hell. He draws and paints on different kinds of materials.
