| "I want the whole world to be in my head and still
wear my own hat." Lewis Smith is a traveler. He spends all his life wandering
around the United States. He has not created a personal world, but rather
given a personal account of his observations in his journals and drawings.
Every material appeals to him: wrapping paper, supermarket bags, etc. He
likes to relate everyday life: bar scenes, restaurants, menus, prices, and
sport events. He is mostly fond of wrestlers, jugglers and acrobats. He
also loves to draw domestic animals. When he runs out of money, he goes
back to Ohio and works on a farm. This eccentric man has never shown his
drawings or writings to anyone. He is sort of chronicler of life. |
