| Kazimierz Cycon is born in a peasant family and only
attends elementary school for few years. His first mental troubles appear
when he is twenty-one: constant agitation, anorexia, and gradual isolation.
His family leaves him adrift and does not seem to worry about him. He chooses
to sleep in the attic, becomes increasingly aggressive and requires hospitalization.
He retreats into himself, not wanting any contact with the outside world.
At the age of forty-two, he starts drawing, first using pencils, then gouache.
He refuses all medical and therapeutic help. The image of a face with very
large eyes is a recurrent theme in his work. |
