Born in Italy on July 13th, 1901

Joseph Barbiero is a mason of Italian origin, who lives in Auvergne but has never lost his Venetian accent. He works on the restoration of the cathedral of Notre-Dame-du-Port and of the one of Clermont-Ferrand.

Barbiero spends the last twenty-five years of his life making sculptures from volcanic stones that might remind us of a Celtic heritage prior to the Roman colonization. He also draws, using lead pencil on pieces of paper from Melba toast boxes, which he covers on both sides with human figures or barbarian animals.
